So, what is exactly is "collective care"?

7 years ago, I started this work with the hopes of encouraging hard-working people to practice the self-care they needed. During that time, myself and many, many others were depleted, overworked and struggling to slow down.

Over the years, this work has evolved tremendously. Today, Gmichelle Wellness has made space to highlight the barriers to recovering from burnout, like toxic productivity and capitalist fatigue. And in this season, we are exploring an essential component to recovery: collective and community care.

Collectively caring for community is exactly as it sounds -- the responsibility of caring is in the hands of all of us, not just one person. Collective care includes collectively coming together with the needs of all as the focus. We can share the responsibility of caring for others using support systems, resourcefulness, solidarity and personal and social connections.

My upcoming Community Grounding sessions are designed with collective care at the core. We all will be taking up space to lean on and pour into one another. This month's session will focus on how to reduce doomscrolling and ways to de-stress away from screens. While I'll be sharing a couple of grounding practices, this space welcomes you to share what's been helpful for you, what members of your community do to destress and which resources you believe would be helpful for others to know about. All sessions are donation-based, with all proceeds benefiting The Okra Project.

Join us on Wednesday, 10/22 at 1PM - 1:30PM EST via Zoom, by clicking the button below:
